The lake plateau and hill country south of the Argen and Nonnenbachtal is a landscape protection area (LSG number 4.35.034) in the east of the Baden-Württemberg Lake Constance district in Germany, which was designated by the Tübingen regional council by ordinance of June 19, 1986 .

The 1,001 hectares (ha) large, consisting of two non contiguous areas reserve Lake District and the hills south of the evil one, and Nonnenbachtal is one natural area to Lake basin .

Part 1 - lake district and hill country south of the Argen

In the east and south, the state border with Bavaria , the state road 2375 and the road around the Muttelsee form the border of the protected area. Then in a clockwise direction to pass through to Kressbronn on Lake belonging Weiler Riedensweiler , going Weiler , Wettis (to Tettnang ) Nitzenweiler , Atlas Hofen , Hüttmann Berg , Döllen and Berg until Heiligenhof . In the north, the hamlets of Unterwolfertsweiler , Gitzensteig , Rattenweiler , Hiltensweiler and Götzenweiler , which belong to Tettnang , describe the border of the sub-area.

Central points of the sub-area are the Deger (30 ha), Muttel- (8.2 ha), Schlein (14.1 ha), and Wieland (2.5 ha ) lakes, which were formed as meltwater lakes around 15,000 years ago at the end of the last Ice Age ) as well as the much smaller chamber pond.

Section 2 - Nonnenbachtal

From the center of Kressbronn, the northern border runs along the Nonnenbach valley through the hamlets of Mittel- , Obermühle , Arensweiler and Krummensteg to the Bavarian border. This forms the eastern border of the protected area as far as Selmnau . From there, the sub-area south of the Nonnenbach along the Kressbronner Ottenberg is limited to the Nonnenbachschule.

The Nonnenbach is a tributary of Lake Constance , its name is derived from the old German word Ungenbach = Unkenbach .

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is the preservation of the beauty and uniqueness of the hilltop landscape with the embedded lakes, stream valleys and the wooded hills in their scenic diversity and the still large number of near-natural biotopes (wetlands and semi-arid grasslands). This area with its alternating agricultural use through meadows, pastures, arable and fruit-growing areas is to be preserved and secured in its recreational value.

  • European crayfish or European crayfish ( Astacus astacus ) from the superfamily of crayfish
  • Grass snake ( Natrix natrix ), a snake from the adder family
  • Dipper ( Cinclus cinclus ), also Eurasian dipper , the only member of the dipper family
