The area Knellesberger Moss is a by ordinance of 28 August 1996 of the Regional Council Tübingen been instructed Nature Reserve (NSG number 4268) in the eastern Württemberg Baden- community Meckenbeuren , north of the city Tettnang (both Bodenseekreis ) and in the south of the city of Ravensburg (district Eschach, district of Ravensburg ) in Germany . The nature reserve is surrounded by the Knellesberger Moos landscape protection area (two sub-areas, LSG no. 4.35.039 and 4.36.073).

The 39 hectare large nature reserve and the 22-hectare conservation area Knellesberger Moss include natural area for Westallgäuer hills . The nature reserve is about four and a half kilometers east of Meckenbeuren and about two kilometers southeast of the Liebenau district, between the hamlets of Madenreute , Wiedenbach and Siggenweiler , at an altitude of 519 to 541  m above sea level. NN . The Schwarzach flows through the NSG towards the west to the Schussen .

Protection purpose

The main protective purpose is the preservation and promotion of a wide meadow valley, the scenic beauty and character of which is characterized by the almost continuously free meandering and largely natural or near-natural stream of the Schwarzach, lined with gallery forest-like woodland, the preservation and care of the wet, Wet and littered meadows , the remains of a swamp moor and a gentian pipe grass meadow, orchard meadows, near-natural alluvial forest elements, reed stands with their sometimes highly endangered animal and plant species, the safeguarding of a particularly rich biotope mosaic , in particular the protection, the precaution and care of diverse and species-rich Plant and animal communities, the preservation and development of the Knellesberger Moos and its surroundings as a testimony to natural history, regional studies and culture and the development of a network of near-natural biotopes, especially the agricultural ones zten supplementary and buffer areas on the edge of the protected area through extensification and renaturation measures, old forms of land use are to be maintained and re-established.

The protection purpose of the landscape protection area is the preservation and development of the supplementary spaces and buffer zones necessary for the nature reserve with the typical landscape and terrain relief for the transition from the Allgäu landscape upstream on the Schwarzach to the Lake Constance basin below.

Flora and fauna

From the flora worthy of protection the following plant species (selection) are to be named:

  • Spring knot flower ( Leucojum vernum ), also called Märzenbecher or Large Snowdrop ; a kind from the family of the Amaryllis (Amaryllidaceae)
  • Swallowwort gentian ( Gentiana asclepiadea ); a representative from the genus Gentian ( Gentiana ).
