The Gießenmoos area is a nature reserve (NSG number 4.194) designated by ordinance of November 6, 1991 of the Tübingen Regional Council in the area of the city of Wangen im Allgäu and the municipality of Argenbühl in the Ravensburg district , Baden-Württemberg in Germany .
location
The 15 hectare (ha) large, two-part nature reserve Gießenmoos is part of the Westallgäu hill country . It is located about 4.2 kilometers east of downtown Wangen, north of the Upper Argen , between the hamlets of Halden, Grub, Goldbach and Gießen, at an altitude of 580 to 590 m above sea level. NN . In the field maps these are Gemarkungen with Deuchelried (Wangen) and Eglofs (hall Geratsreute referred to Argenbuehl).
Protection purpose
The main protection purpose is the preservation and in parts - by converting the farm meadows into grassland with litter meadow-like use - the restoration of an ecologically valuable wetland mosaic as
- Habitat and important refuge of species-rich and endangered flora and fauna, but especially as a breeding area for rare bird species,
- Moor complex with important ecological compensation functions such as water retention and purification,
- important component in the habitat network of wetlands along the Upper Argen and the entire region.
Flora and fauna

The springy subsoil of the hillside moor gives the flora settlement opportunities for species, some of which are particularly worthy of protection: 149 higher plant species have been identified so far, of which three are considered endangered in Baden-Württemberg and 19 species are endangered. The following types (selection) are to be mentioned:
- Bach thistle ( Cirsium rivulare ), a species of the daisy family
- Cabbage thistle ( Cirsium oleraceum ), also from the daisy family

- Herminium monorchis or Musk ( Herminium monorchis )
- Green-winged Orchid ( Orchis morio )
- Globe flower ( Trollius europaeus ), belongs to the buttercup family
The Drahtseggenried with the wire sedge ( Carex diandra ), which developed on the Mühlenkanl through the Gießenmoos , is one of the most endangered sub- societies in Germany.
fauna
In addition to nine different and in part endangered species of grasshopper , a large number of butterfly and dragonfly species , the fauna worthy of protection includes the following species:
- Red-backed Shrike or Rotrückenwürger ( Lanius collurio ), a species of bird in the family of the Strangler
- Marsh Grasshopper ( Stethophyma grossum ), a short probe cricket from the family of grasshoppers
- Meadow pipit ( Anthus pratensis ), a species of bird in the family of stilts and pipiters
- Migratory birds that were observed during their rest in Gießenmoos :
- Lapwing ( Vanellus vanellus ), a member of the
- Yellow wagtail ( Motacilla flava ), also from the family of stilts and pipiters
- Wheatear ( Oenanthe oenanthe ), a species from the flycatcher family
