The Rotasweiher-Degermoos area is a nature reserve (NSG number 4.222) in the area of ​​the city of Wangen im Allgäu in the district of Ravensburg , Baden-Württemberg in Germany, which was designated by ordinance of April 23, 1993 by the Tübingen regional council .

location

The 53  hectare (ha) nature reserve Rotasweiher-Degermoos is part of the Westallgäu hill country . It is located about 6.5 kilometers southwest of downtown Wangen on the Neuravensburg district , between the hamlets of Untermoorweiler and Engetsweiler , at an altitude of 540 to 550  m above sea level. Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is the preservation, maintenance and partial restoration of an extremely richly structured moor complex with interspersed mineral grasslands as

  • Habitat and retreat area for a species-rich and sometimes highly endangered animal and plant world,
  • important part of the Degermoos bog complex , which extends with its high bog core into neighboring Bavarian area (additional approx. 70.5 ha),
  • important component in the habitat network of wetlands in the Württemberg Allgäu and
  • Testimony to a cultural landscape that has grown and used extensively for many centuries.
