The Brunnenholzried area is a nature reserve designated by ordinance of December 4, 2003 and a protected forest in the south of the German state of Baden-Württemberg . As early as January 1, 1924, the Bannwald was first placed under protection. The areas of both protected areas are identical.

definition

In Baden-Württemberg, forest reserves are total reserves in which any use is prohibited by ordinance. In other countries in Germany, the total reserves are known as natural forest reserve , natural forest parcel , natural forest cell or natural forest . Forests are used for scientific research into natural processes in forests. Due to their wealth of structure and dead wood, ban forests are retreats for many endangered animal, plant and fungus species.

location

The protected areas, which are around 164 hectares in size and belong to the Upper Swabian Hügelland nature reserve, are located around three kilometers northwest of the Bad Waldsee town center and around one and a half kilometers south of Michelwinnaden .

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is to secure the uninfluenced development of the partially drained raised bog and its edge zones with the typical animal and plant species as well as to guarantee the scientific observation of the development. This includes the protection of the habitats and communities that are located in the area, that change in the course of the dynamic development of the forest within the protected area, or that arise through the dynamic development. The peat forests and raised bog relics are of particular importance.

care, support

The Bannwald Brunnenholzried is scientifically supervised by the Forest Research and Research Institute of Baden-Württemberg (BVA), which coordinates nature conservation issues with the Tübingen District Office for Nature Conservation and Landscape Management.
