description
The NSG Arrisrieder Moos is a raised bog remnant of considerable size with surrounding various types of bog biotopes. It was formed at the end of the Würme Ice Age around 10,000 years ago between two terminal moraine walls that had been pushed up by the Rhine Glacier at the time.
In the 18th century peat was cut in the Arrisried Moos for the first time on a large scale . The peat body is up to five meters thick. In 1914 a peat factory was built in the south of today's nature reserve. After peat extraction was stopped in 1960, a peat extraction company tried by all means to obtain permission for the further use of the moor. By resistance from the population, the final destruction of the Moors could be prevented: the Forestry Commission declared the area in 1984 to Schonwald , 1989 took place the additional security as a nature reserve.
