The Herzogenweiher area is a nature reserve (NSG number 4.182) designated by ordinance of February 5, 1991 by the Tübingen regional council in the area of ​​the Baden-Württemberg municipalities of Amtzell and Bodnegg in the Ravensburg district in Germany .

location

The approximately 34  hectare large nature reserve Duke Weiher is one natural area to Westallgäuer hills . It is located 2.5 kilometers southwest of Amtzell and southeast of Bodnegg, between the hamlets of Baltersberg, Mohrhaus and Unterwies, at an altitude of 550 to 560  m above sea level. NN . In the southeast area of ​​the nature reserve lies the 2.9 hectare Herzogenweiher, which was first mentioned in 1396 .

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is the preservation of the water and the adjoining reed areas and wet meadows as characteristic and highly endangered elements of the Upper Swabian cultural landscape, as an ecologically valuable retreat for rare plant and animal species and especially as a resting and resting place for bird migration. The purpose of protection also includes the goal of undoing damage that has already occurred and interventions in the past.

The Herzogenweiher nature reserve is an important habitat for butterflies , dragonflies and numerous rare bird species : 32 of the 96 species recorded are listed in Baden-Württemberg's Red List, many of which are endangered or endangered. They include the tree hawk , bluethroat , whinchat , kingfisher , osprey , black stork and pochard . Among the dragonflies, the blue-winged demoiselle , the banded demoiselle and the spotted emerald dragonfly should be mentioned.
