The Hirrensee area is a nature reserve (NSG number 4.238) in the southeast of the Baden-Württemberg city ​​of Tettnang in Germany, which was designated by ordinance of February 20, 1994 by the Tübingen Regional Council .

location

The approximately 16 hectare large nature reserve Hirrensee is one natural area to Westallgäuer hills . It is located south of the Hiltensweiler district of Tettnang , west of the Muttelsee , northeast of the Degersee and east of the Oberwolfertsweiler district , at an altitude of 510  m above sea level. NN .

Protection purpose

The main purpose of protection is to maintain and improve a richly structured ecosystem . This consists of

  • a nutrient-poor flat moor with the particularly endangered flora from Kalkkleinseggenriedern; especially noteworthy is the Mehlprimel -Kopfbinsen Society. These areas are also refuges for glacial relics and many rare marsh plants of the Central European flora. For bird communities they are one of the most important biotope types and represent a retreat for many insects , including numerous species of butterflies and moths.
  • Pipe grass litter meadows , whose floristic biodiversity is habitat for numerous insect species, especially for butterflies and rams that are only native there
  • Moist and wet meadows as food and habitat for endangered meadow breeders
  • Orchards as an important element of our traditional cultural landscape and as a habitat for numerous animals, especially birds and small mammals. The neighboring reed stands form a supplementary food biotope for some of them
  • the buffer areas to avoid further intensification of agriculturally used areas in the area surrounding the wetland
