history

Half-timbered house from 1736 in Retterschen

In the year 799, on June 23rd, Retterschen was first mentioned as Ratineshova . At that time Reginbold transferred his property to the church in Wasserburg . The document, now in the possession of the St. Gallen Abbey Archives , contains the following translated text:

In the name of God. I have considered Reginbold that I have to give some of my possessions to venerable places of the saints for my soul's salvation and eternal reward and have therefore also done so. I will join the Church of St. Gallus and St. Georg zu Wasserburg, which was built in the Argengau, give all my possessions in the place called Ratineshova, with land, forests, standing and flowing water, fields and meadows. I give and hand over and bequeath everything to my children and their descendants for an interest. As I said, I want all of this to be given to the above-mentioned church for an annual interest rate of one saiga (gold coin). And if someone, which I do not believe will happen, myself, one of my heirs or successors, or any other hostile person, wanted to challenge this document, which I asked to issue voluntarily, and question it, he should not only be refused, but he should have to pay two ounces of gold and four pounds of silver as a penalty, and even if he repeats the attempt it should be unsuccessful, but this document should remain in force and valid at all times, as the witnesses confirm. Happened in the place called Wasserburg. This document was written in the 30th year of the reign of our Lord Charles (the Great), King of the Franks under Count Roadbert. This is testified by Reginbold, who asked that this document be issued. Sikabert. Sikabert. Henco. Sikabert, priest. Batucho, deacon. Wolfbert. Hamadeohc. Christian. Kerolt. Rihbold. Cundini. Tukiman. Deodolt. Uzzo. Wolflant. Liutrod. I, the cleric Deodolt, wrote and signed here on request and request. I noted the ninth day before the July calendar, a Sunday.

827 and 933 further transfers of ownership occur. Around 1200, the monastery listed three farms in Retterschen, in the 15th century there were five. These went as fiefs to two bourgeois families from Lindau , and in 1490 to the Sürgen von Sürgenstein .

The village community used the proceeds of the village festival on the occasion of the 1200th anniversary on June 13, 1999 for a community-promoting and at the same time tourist-friendly seating arrangement in the center of Retterschen.

Attractions

Spleen yard

The former Milz farm and Schultheissenhof provides an insight into the history and development of agriculture. At its original location, a typical farm of the region has been preserved in rare completeness and originality, which can be visited as part of guided tours and events of the association for the preservation of the Milz farm complex.

The history of the courtyard can be traced back to the beginning of the community's history around 800: At that time, the St. Gallen monastery acquired property in Retterschen. Today four buildings from three centuries give an insight into the life of our ancestors: the main house (1855/75) with living rooms and stables, barn (1717), remise (1803) and back house (1705). The living quarters were built in 1855 by the mayor of the community at that time and equipped with an office in which the community administration had its seat until 1870.
The farm was named Monument of the Month for September 2005 by the Monument Foundation Baden-Württemberg .

Cultural monuments

In addition to the Milz farm complex, the former feudal courtyard of the Löwental Monastery , a wayside shrine , Saint Florian as the house saint and a wayside cross on the basis of the list of immovable architectural and art monuments of the Baden-Württemberg State Monuments Office are designated as cultural monuments .
