The Milz farm complex is a former farm and Schultheißenhof in the Retterschen district of the Baden-Württemberg community of Kressbronn on Lake Constance in the Lake Constance district in Germany .

At the original location, a typical former farm of the region has been preserved in rare completeness and originality, which can be visited as part of guided tours or events by the Association for the Preservation of the Milz Farm and provides insight into the history and development of agriculture.

History of the courtyard

The history of the Milz farm complex can be traced back to the beginning of the community history: At that time, the St. Gallen monastery acquired property in Retterschen, which was first mentioned in a document in 799. This was followed by Konrad von Stegen (near Aulendorf ), wealthy Lindau citizens and, from 1491 to 1809, the Lords of Sirgenstein from the Allgäu . They loaned the farm to the local farmers. Since 1680 it was the Huster family from Wasserburg who acquired the farm as their property; Theresia Milz , who gave the farm its name, lived here as the last member of this family until 1992. In 2001 the Kressbronn municipality acquired the property.

The courtyard spleen was until 1907 a plot of land in scenic location, the time of the Dusseldorf originating Judge  a. D. Dübbers was sold. The proceeds were used for a new cider press (1910) and a hop kiln (1912). On the property was Dübbers a villa in the Art Nouveau building, the later " Alliance Home ", today's " Sonnenhof ".

building

Today four free-standing buildings from three centuries give an impressive insight into the life of our ancestors: the main house with living rooms and stables, the barn , the coach house and the bakery .

Main house

The living quarters of this single house - people and animals live under one roof - were rebuilt in 1855 by the mayor Franz Josef Huster of the then Nonnenbach community and furnished with an office in which the community administration was based until 1870. As the generations have brought them together, the furnishings in the living rooms are still preserved in their original state. In addition to the ubiquitous Catholic piety, it also shows the downright humble modesty of this rural Lake Constance area. Time seems to have stood still since 1945: The war widow Milz had neither a bathroom nor central heating , no refrigerator , no electric stove , no running cold and certainly no warm water.
In 1875 the farm section was converted for livestock farming. The high entrance, haystack and feed alley are reminiscent of the heyday of cattle and grassland farming in the second third of the 19th century. At that time, the most important cattle markets in southern Upper Swabia were held on the town hall square in Kressbronn . Between 2005 and 2006 the business section was repaired, and the residential section in 2007/08.

Remise

The warehouse, built in 1803, housed the wood and crockery store, wagons were parked here and in 1912 a drying floor was set up for the harvested hops .

Since 2010, the remise has been repaired by the association in collaboration with an architect.

Chafing

When arable and wine-growing were still practiced in Retterschen, the barn of the courtyard was built in 1717. The grain store, threshing floor and wine cellar bear witness to this time. In 1900 a shed and a cider press were added. In 2003/04, the barn was restored in accordance with the preservation order, and in 2007 the cider press was restored.

Bakehouse

Fresh baked goods have been produced in the bakery since 1705. It was also used as a washing and bathing area, where slaughter was carried out and schnapps was distilled. In 1981 the bakery was renovated.

Gardens

In 2008, senior citizens from Kressbronn created a traditional cottage garden in the area between the bakery and the coach house. The garden that existed until then reminds of the far-reaching self-sufficiency of the courtyard.

Kressbronner farmers extended the plant in 2009 to a 30 historic Standard tree species extensive orchard with the apple varieties Berlepsch , Bohnapfel , Boskoop , Champagnerrenette , French Goldrenette , Gewürzluiken , Glockenapfel , Goldparmäne , Gravenstein , House Apple, Joseph Musch , Yellow Transparent , Landsberger Renette , Teuringer Rambour , Salem Monastery apple , Beautiful from the Oberland , Transparent, Welschisner and Zabergäurenette and the pear varieties Gelbmöstler , Gute Luise , Delicious from Charneux , Palmischbirne , Rommelter , Red Tettnang Mostbirne , Swiss water pear , Stuttgart Gaishirtl , Sülibirne and Witfelder .
