The Gewürzluiken is an autumn apple variety . The tree is easy to recognize by the top drought of the young shoots (a mixture of fruit tree shrimp , scab and gloeosporium).

The origin of this variety is a chance seedling, probably from Northern Württemberg. From there, the variety was spread throughout Württemberg since 1885 , so that it became one of the most frequently planted varieties in Württemberg alongside the Luiken apple , with which it is also often confused.

The medium-sized to large fruits have a yellow base color and a strong carmine-red to dark red covering color with partly brown-red stripes. The flesh is white, very juicy and has a sour, slightly spicy taste. The fruits are ripe for picking around mid to late October and from November to March. The fruit is used as a table apple and for making must .

The variety should only be planted in warmer locations, as it is susceptible to wood frosts and usually cannot ripen in cold locations, which means that the fruits do not discolour and taste grassy.
