Franz Johann (es) Vogt of Altensumerau and Prasberg (born November 6, 1611 at Achberg Castle in Western Allgäu; † March 7, 1689 in Constance ) was Prince- Bishop of Constance from 1645 to 1689.

Life

Franz Johann Vogt von Altensumerau and Prasberg came from the old Upper Swabian family of the bailiffs of Altensumerau (von Hallwyl) and Prasberg . He was the son of Albert von Prasberg zu Altensummerau and Maria Salome von Syrgenstein.

Franz Johann studied at the Collegium Germanicum in Rome from 1629 to 1635 and was ordained a priest there on March 3, 1635 . Before returning home, he studied at the University of Perugia . On December 22, 1641 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Constance and titular bishop of Megara and on May 28, 1645 consecrated bishop of Constance.

Under Bishop Franz Johann, damage to the church and the convent buildings of the Augustinian Canons' Monastery of Öhningen were repaired, and the new high altar was consecrated in 1681.

Franz Johann was Reichsritter and since 1674 baron .
