Johann Daniel Georg von Memminger
Johann Daniel Georg Memminger , from 1829 from Memminger , (born April 16, 1773 in Tübingen , † February 21, 1840 in Stuttgart ) was a Württemberg geographer and statistician.
life and work
Memminger comes from a family of craftsmen, his father was a master shoemaker in Tübingen. He attended the Latin school in Tübingen, and on the advice of his teachers, he was able to attend the grammar school in Stuttgart and the monastery school in Maulbronn. In 1792 he began studying at the Evangelical Theological Monastery in Tübingen. After completing his master's degree in 1796, he received a teaching position in Cannstatt in 1798. In 1802 he became a teacher at the Latin school in Cannstatt , where he worked for 22 years. Even then, Memminger was interested in statistics in the sense of a comprehensive political science. From 1809 to 1813 he published several small articles and publications.
Memminger was then appointed as scientific director in the newly founded royal statistical-topographical office, which u. a. carried out the Württemberg state survey and subsequently published the descriptions of the Oberamts. He was commissioned to write a general description of the country. He fulfilled this task by conceiving the Württemberg Oberamtsbeschreibung, 14 of which were published by 1838. In 1834 Memminger was entrusted with editing the Court and State Manual of the Kingdom of Württemberg .
In 1805 he married Louise Klett (1786–1842) from Offenhausen, Reutlingen district. Out of five children, only one daughter reached the age of four.

- From 1818 to 1822 he edited four volumes of the Württemberg yearbooks .
- As early as 1820 he published the description or geography and statistics of Württemberg . It was so carefully worked out that the year after his death it was published in a third revised edition (based on the notes in his estate).
- Between 1822 and 1838 the Oberamts descriptions of Reutlingen, Münsingen, Ehingen, Riedlingen, Rottenburg Saulgau, Blaubeuren, Urach, Cannstatt, Waldsee, Ulm, Ravensburg, Biberach and Tettnang appeared.
Promotions and Honors
- In 1810 he was awarded the title of professor.
- In 1824 he was promoted to Finance Council and in 1834 to Oberfinanzrat.
- In 1829 Johann Daniel Georg von Memminger was honored with the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown , which was associated with the personal title of nobility.
