history

The place Wörth is likely to be very old, even if its age cannot be documented. As excavations with Celtic and Roman trenches and ashes were found in the area, this should be proof that the Celts and then the Romans lived here.

The village of Wörth, a long, two-line street village with a corridor , was probably built by Gottschalk III at the same time or soon after the construction of Wörth Castle. von Neuberg (1218–66) founded. It was the first and largest village of the rulership on the Lafnitz with around 60 farms. The village was first mentioned in a document in 1330. The next mention came from the year 1418, because in the spring the parish was devastated by the Hungarians. Until 1529 the village was not mentioned in a document. When the Turks destroyed Wörth that year , all Wörth residents were mentioned for the first time in a document listing the damage.

The border village of Wörth suffered the worst visits during the Kuruc period . On July 25, 1704 the village was completely burned down. The Woerthers soon rebuilt their farmsteads, albeit not entirely, but were threatened by raids and robberies almost every week. At the beginning of January 1707 the village was severely damaged by the billeted clumsiness (foot soldiers). When the Kuruc leader Bezerédy attacked on August 28th, the whole village with the rebuilt houses was completely burned down. It was not until 1712 that order slowly returned. The houses were partially rebuilt and the grounds were cultivated again.

On July 26, 1944 local residents were in the airspace over Wörth a dogfight between an American -17 B bomber and several German fighter planes type Messerschmitt Bf 109 watch. The bomber was shot down and crashed a few kilometers to the east, in Stinatz . Three crew members did not survive the dogfight, six others were able to save themselves by parachute.

Since 1976 there has been a friendship between the Musikverein Wörth an der Lafnitz and the Musikverein "Edelweiß" Wörth am Rhein in Germany.

Silver and red were chosen as the coat of arms because these are also the colors of St. George . His horse is shown in white on the earliest depictions of this dragon saint. The flag on the lance is also white, with a red cross on it. In coats of arms the color white is represented as silver.
