Pischelsdorf in Styria is a village in the former market town of Pischelsdorf in Styria. Until the end of 2014 this existed with 2550 inhabitants (as of October 31, 2013). As part of the municipal structural reform in Styria, it has been merged with the former municipalities of Kulm bei Weiz and Reichendorf since 2015 and is now called Pischelsdorf am Kulm . The basis for this is the Styrian Municipal Structural Reform Act - StGsrG.
geography
Location and accessibility
Pischelsdorf is located in the southern Kulm region in the eastern Styrian hill country . The Wechsel Straße B 54 leads through Pischelsdorf , which runs along the old Poststraße from Gleisdorf over the Wechsel to Wiener Neustadt .
Since Pischelsdorf, which is a small regional economic and trade center, administratively belongs to the Weiz district, whose district capital is on the opposite side of the Kulm , its regional relationships (e.g. hospital, schools, wholesale markets) are to the small towns of Hartberg and Gleisdorf stronger.
The Pischelsdorf market, the center of the market town of Pischelsdorf am Kulm, is located on a ridge sloping to the south, which is bordered by the two brooks Römerbach and Dürr-Feistriz, which flow together to the southeast of the town. The main square, which is surrounded by town houses on this southern slope, is closed on the narrower north side by the large church staircase, which leads to the church above it and consecrated to the patron saints Peter and Paul.
Cadastral communities
In 1909 the community of Pischelsdorf was divided into the two communities of Pischelsdorf and Schachen. This separation did not last for a long time, because on January 1, 1952, the cadastral communities Hart, Romatschachen and Schachen were incorporated into the market community of Pischelsdorf by state law. The municipality comprised the following five localities (residents as of January 1, 2020):
- Hard (264)
- Kleinpesendorf (186)
- Pischelsdorf in Styria (1544)
- Reichendorf (598)
- Romatschachen (428)
- Schachen am Römerbach (197)
The municipality of Pischelsdorf in Styria covered an area of 1,732 hectares until 2014.
Settlement development after 1945
The main settlement area of Pischelsdorf has expanded. The main town was expanded via Wechsel Straße B 54, which was moved to the outskirts in the 1960s . This development became evident in the 1970s and 1980s with four housing estates on the south and south-east side of the street facing away from the town. In the 1990s, a shopping center was built to the south of the B 54 instead of an old sawmill. In the following years, further trading and service companies were located along the B 54 and new junctions were built so that the character of a bypass no longer exists.
history
middle Ages
The first documentary mention of Pischelsdorf was on October 1, 1043, when Heinrich III . gave a certain Adalram two hubs in Ramarsstetin. The name "Ramarsstetin" has long been interpreted as a "Roman site", while today it is assumed that the name can be derived from a personal name. One reason for the older assumption was the complete splintering of the fields , which was unique in Eastern Styria .
In the 12th century, part of this property went to the Archbishop of Salzburg (based on a contract of inheritance from 1152), the Göß monastery and the Wildonians . The part that went to the Archbishop of Salzburg was renamed Bischofsdorf, which is now Pischelsdorf.
The first mention of a parish Pischelsdorf and its priest can be found in a document from the year 1203. In 1322 the place came to the Herbersteiners in exchange for other goods as fiefs . The Herbersteiners wanted to make Pischelsdorf an economic center of their possessions and in 1407 the place was first mentioned as a market. Only the tailors had their own craft regulations, which were presented to the emperor for confirmation in 1610.
Modern times
In 1532, moving Ottoman troops destroyed the place, with the majority of the population either perishing or being abducted. The major fires of 1643 and 1761 caused further catastrophes, which also destroyed the parish registers and the log books of the local administration. The first proof of a teacher in Pischelsdorf can be found in a visitation protocol from 1617. From there on, teachers are repeatedly named in registers and documents.
In the course of the Josephine parish regulation, Pischelsdorf was the seat of a deanery and the current parish scope was determined. Joseph II confirmed the two cattle markets again. The parish church dominating the townscape was built between 1898 and 1902 in place of a baroque church from the 17th century.
