Triennial

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term triennial ("every three years") refers to an event that takes place every three years. These are exhibitions , competitions, festivals or presentations in the artistic or cultural-economic field.

The word is made up of the Latin tres, tria or Greek treis, tría "three" and the Latin annus "year".

Examples of such events are the Ruhrtriennale , the Triennale of Photography in Hamburg or the Music Triennale in Cologne . The Ruhrtriennale does not really live up to its name, as the festival director changes every three years, but events are offered every year.

Compare this to the Biennale , which has a two-year repetition period.
