Puch bei Weiz is a municipality in Eastern Styria ( Austria ), about 25 km east of Graz and 10 km east of the district capital Weiz . It is located in the Eastern Styrian hill country .
The community has an area of 24.76 km² and 2042 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The main town of Puch, in the middle of which is the parish church of St. Oswald, has retained its village character to this day.

The community consists of the six cadastral communities Elz, Harl, Höfling, Klettendorf, Perndorf and Puch and covers an area of 24.76 km².
history
The municipality of Puch has been inhabited since the Stone Age, which is confirmed by numerous finds on the Kulm . The Kulm also played an important role in the region during the Celtic and Roman times.
The parish of Puch bei Weiz was first mentioned in 1386 .

Municipal coat of arms
The coat of arms of the municipality of Puch was awarded on May 1, 1979 and is described as follows:
"In the golden shield there is a raised black mountain growing into the head of the shield with a flattened summit, covered in a wreath with six touching golden apples whose calyxes are turned outwards and whose stems, curved to the right, touch."

In Puch, apples are grown on over 600 hectares, making the community the largest fruit-growing community in Austria.
economy
In addition to the cultivation of apples and their marketing, tourism is an essential pillar of the Puch economy. The place has eight inns and several guest houses. The Pucher tourism lives on the one hand from the scenic charms of the Alpine foothills and apple cultivation and on the other hand from the proximity to the Stubenbergsee, Austria's largest artificial swimming lake.
The largest employer in the community is the Puch fruit warehouse. The Pucher business operations include a car workshop, two grocers, a tree nursery and the like. a.

Culture and sights
- Kulmipfel: The local mountain of Puch is not particularly high at 976 m, but due to its location it is an important mountain, as you can see the entire eastern Alpine foothills from its summit. It served as a location for signal beacons as early as the Middle Ages. There is still a transmitter at the summit next to a way of the cross and an orientation stone.
- The Styrian Apple Road leads through the center of Styrian fruit growing. She leaves impressions due to the enormous fruit areas and the wide culinary offer based on apples.
- Parish Church St. Oswald: The highlight of the visit to this church, consecrated in 1444, is the baroque high altar. The Roman stone in the church wall and the Gothic aisle are also worth seeing.
- The Haus des Apfels museum in the Harl district deals with all the details of the connection between Puch and apple cultivation.
- Prehistoric open-air museum: This open-air museum on the Kulm shows the history of the Kulm as a Celtic settlement.
- Largest apple in the world: In Elz, the gateway to the apple country - a large apple arch made of larch wood - can be seen as the center of a corresponding theme trail.

Tourism association
Together with Feistritztal, Floing, Anger and Stubenberg, the community forms the “Apfelland Stubenbergsee ” tourist association . Its seat is Stubenberg.
Balloon sport club
In 1976 the first balloon meeting with ten hot air balloons took place, at that time the largest in Europe at that time. In 1977 the Union Aeronautic Styria was founded as the first balloon sport club in Austria and in 1978 it was accepted into the Austrian Aero Club . Hans “Himmelvater” Almer (* 1956) has been chairman since 2001, he was a helper at the first take-offs after the company was founded, obtained his first license in Hungary in 1986, his balloon pilot license in Austria in 1989 and was Austrian national champion in 2000. In 2016 the association organizes the 40th Apfelmontgolfiade in Puch with 40 teams.
