First artificially created swimming lake in Styria

The Stubenbergsee is an artificially created swimming lake below the Styrian village of Stubenberg, municipality of Stubenberg am See . It lies at the foot of the Kulm .

The approximately 40 hectare lake was created between 1968 and 1971. It is fed by the water of the Feistritz , although cleaning and treatment has been carried out for several years before it enters the lake. The water can be channeled into the lake on the north bank and drained back into the Feistritz at the south-west corner. From north to south the lake stretches for about 1,000 m, from west to east for about 420 m.

Various leisure facilities such as restaurants, changing facilities, boat and bicycle rentals, beach volleyball courts, surfing schools, children's playgrounds, etc. and sunbathing areas are located on the east and north banks in particular.

In recent years, the lake operator, the municipality of Stubenberg , has built a number of facilities within the lake area to make it even more attractive: The lido has a 60-meter water slide, a sandy beach, a pirate ship , sitting stones and a small lighthouse a Babyparadies designed while on the eastern beach a jump rock has been built. This is an artificial rock - a natural stone of this size would not be transportable - that forms a 1-meter and 3-meter jumping platform.

The electric excursion boat on the Stubenbergsee is also popular and can be chartered for groups during the bathing season - from the end of May to September. It has a capacity of 60 people and for a one-hour trip only the entrance fee to the lake (€ 6.50, for groups € 3.50) is collected.

The south-east bank borders directly on the steeply rising, wooded flank of the Buchkogel, the southern tip on the Herbersteinklamm with Geierwand and the Kranzl as a striking vantage point, while the west bank is only separated from the Feistritz by a dam. Around the lake there is an approximately 3 km long paved path, which is appreciated by inline skaters because of its completely flat course.

There are parking spaces on the east and north banks. A fee is required for entry during the season.
