In 1986 around 40 farmers joined forces and founded the Styrian Apple Road Association . The basic idea was to strengthen the economic power of the region, to bring the local fruit-growing area closer to the visitors and to promote tourism. This is how the 25-kilometer apple road was created , which begins near Gleisdorf on Wechselbundesstrasse (B 54) and runs through five municipalities. The center of this adventure route of fruit growing is Puch bei Weiz .

There is a wide range of apples on offer: fresh fruit , cider , apple juice , fine brandies and various apple products. Wine taverns and restaurants take part in the offer . The “Apple House”, a “Styrian Fruit Tree Museum” in Puch bei Weiz, was conceived in autumn 1990 as a “living museum”. Inside there is a permanent collection of things to know about apples and fruit growing through the ages , the apple in myth , religion, art, customs , plant protection , hail protection , marketing, transport and harvest. In the outdoor area, a press house, a beehive with a beehive, display boards with beneficial insects and pests of fruit growing, old and new apple varieties and a weather station with a weather tower can be viewed .
