The Ecomare is a natural history museum and aquarium in the southern part of De Koog on the Dutch island of Texel .

In the museum you can find an overview of the flora and fauna on Texel, the Wadden Sea and the ecology of the North Sea . One focus is on the seals . The origins lie in the Texel Museum, which was founded in 1929. The sponsor is the Stichting Texels Museum. There has been a seal pool since 1952.

  • There is a bird and seal sanctuary. Oil-smeared birds and young animals (howlers) left behind by their mother animals and seals with weakened health are taken in here. Around 25 of the mammals are nursed up every year and then released again. A permanent group of 20 seals that could no longer get used to the free life lives here permanently.
  • In the water room you can see the North Sea fauna in mostly open aquariums. Among other things, you can see the seals underwater there.
  • In the exhibition Life on an Island you can follow the expansion of the island of Texel from the last Ice Age to the present day and into the future, and understand the slowly changing relationships between people and the island. Bones of mammals from the Ice Age, information on the work of the first conservationists on Texel ( Jac. P. Thijsse ) and birds from the island can be viewed.
