De Koog beach

De Koog is a district of the municipality Texel on the island of the same name in the Netherlands . The place is 17 km north of Den Helder .

The old village is only separated from the North Sea coast by two chains of dunes. Here is the center of tourism on the island. There are numerous hotels and campsites around the village.

Population development

In 2001 De Koog had 1,020 inhabitants. The built-up area was 0.33 km² and included 470 apartments. The slightly larger, statistical district De Koog had in 2004 a population of 1,000 people. In 2017 the place had 1,040 inhabitants.

Culture and sights

There is a wooded area south of the village. The Ecomare information center and natural history museum is located here . One of the sights of the municipality is a church from 1415.

Economy and Infrastructure

Tourism is one of the most important industries . With around 20,000 beds in the hotels and other hostels, De Koog provides around half of the total capacity on the island of Texel .
