Regional transport association Freiburg
The Regio-Verkehrsverbund Freiburg ( RVF ) is a transport association that is responsible for tariffs in the area of the city of Freiburg im Breisgau and the districts of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Emmendingen and whose companies operate public transport . As of 2017, 657,000 people lived in the entire network area of 2,211 km² . Part-time managing directors of the association are Dorothe Koch from VAG and Florian Kurth from SBG.
History of the RVF
The Regio-Verkehrsverbund Freiburg GmbH was founded on January 1, 1994 to ensure a uniform tariff and free use of buses and trains in local transport in the network area. This goal was achieved in 1996. This was preceded by a transport association founded in 1985 with 14 companies.
The original founding shareholders of the then mixed association were:
- State of Baden-Württemberg with 10%
- Zweckverband Regio-Nahverkehr Freiburg (ZRF) with 40%
- 14 transport companies with a total of 50%
The local public transport structure in the network area was later reorganized with RVF GmbH as a pure corporate group, which concluded a basic and subsidy contract with the regional regional transport association Freiburg. The three local authorities are organized in the Zweckverband on site.
Today's structure, passenger numbers and offer
Today's shareholders of the RVF are:
- Deutsche Bahn AG with 45% (of which 25% directly from Deutsche Bahn AG and 20% from SBG Südbadenbus GmbH)
- Freiburger Verkehrs AG (VAG) with 33%
- Südwestdeutsche Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft with 12%
- as well as a private GbR consisting of twelve bus companies with a total of 10%
As associated transport companies, the Bad Krozingen municipal utilities (own operations) and the Emmendingen municipal utilities also apply the RVF tariff.
These 19 transport companies offer transport services on 115 routes with an annual volume of 3.509 billion kilometers of space. In 2010 more than 350 buses, 61 trams and 139 trains or S-Bahn were in use. In 2018, almost 123 million passengers were transported. Almost 90% of passengers are holders of season tickets. The rest are occasional drivers with single or multi-trip tickets. The fare income including the tariff subsidy amounted to around 102 million euros.
The RVF is part of the KONUS offer, which allows free use of the means of transport for overnight tourists in the so-called Black Forest holiday region.
Since April 1, 2019, tickets can not only be purchased via their own app , as before , but also those of Deutsche Bahn , the Navigator .
A short-distance ticket has been available since August 1, 2019, which is valid for three stops on all city and regional buses and on the Freiburg trams.
