The term CONE (abbreviation for: Ko Stenlose Nu estimation of public transport in the S chwarzwald) stands for a traffic concept for environmentally friendly mobility of tourists. It was introduced in the Black Forest in 2006 . The KONUS guest card is also called the Black Forest guest card ; It replaces the local tourist card and enables tourists in currently (February 2017) 146 municipalities to use buses and trains free of charge in the nine transport associations of the Black Forest holiday region . In the Karlsruhe Transport Association, the card is only valid in the districts of Rastatt and Baden-Baden as well as on the trains between Rastatt or Bad Herrenalb and Karlsruhe (all buses and trains in the entire city of Karlsruhe).

Overview

During their stay in the Black Forest in the KONUS area, tourists have the opportunity to have their host issue a KONUS guest card free of charge. This guest card is valid as a ticket for the use of the 2nd class of vehicles of the local public transport of the participating transport associations. Thus, the free use of ICE, IC, EC and mountain railways is not included. However, with the possession of the guest card there are also numerous discounts and price advantages at events and facilities throughout the Black Forest.

financing

The KONUS guest card is financed by a flat-rate surcharge on the visitor's tax , which has been 47 euro cents per night since 2018 , but is passed on to overnight guests in different municipalities. The participating transport associations receive a contribution from the municipalities participating in their area of responsibility.

development

KONUS was developed in 2006 by Schwarzwald Tourismus GmbH (STG) and its managing director Christopher Krull. Driving forces on the political level were the former mayor of Hinterzarten, Hansjörg Eckert, and on the part of the transport associations, the managing director of the Ortenau tariff community (TGO), Johannes Müller. Initially, five transport associations and Deutsche Bahn (DB) took part. After KONUS was introduced in 76 municipalities in the southern and central Black Forest by the end of 2007, the Black Forest has been almost completely accessible with the KONUS guest card since January 2008 thanks to the accession of the Freudenstadt , Calw and Rastatt districts . On January 1, 2012, the KONUS validity area was extended to Karlsruhe. Krull named the project KONUS. The name, initially only intended as a working title, then also became the brand name for the tourism mobility concept, which was unique in its scope in Germany. KONUS is usually called a conical square general key, which was used to unlock railway wagons and bus doors in the past.

criticism

The current practice of access to the Konus card has been criticized because it leads to unequal treatment of guests: only private spa guests receive the card, it is not given to patients in clinics and rehabilitation facilities.

It is also criticized that the city of Freiburg im Breisgau refuses to join the system. Although it benefits from the fact that tourists from the surrounding area visit the city thanks to Konus, accommodation providers in Freiburg do not issue the card.
