Sasbachwalden is a municipality in the Ortenaukreis in Baden-Württemberg . The state-approved Kneipp and climatic health resort is located on the western edge of the northern Black Forest .

geography

Geographical location

Sasbachwalden is located on the western slope of the Hornisgrinde in the northern Black Forest at an altitude of 172 to 1164 meters between Baden-Baden and Offenburg . In terms of nature, the western part of the municipality is one of the Ortenau-Bühler foothills of the foothills zone . This is followed in the Black Forest , the granite - basement of Northern Talschwarzwaldes at which the red sandstone height areas located to the east of the community are part of the natural environment Grindenschwarzwald and Enzhöhen . More than 70 percent of the community area consists of forest.

The valley, which is open to the west, allows a distant view of the entire Rhine plain as far as Strasbourg and the Vosges .

Neighboring communities

The community borders in the north on Lauf , in the east on Forbach in the Rastatt district , in the south on Seebach and Kappelrodeck and in the west on the city of Achern and Sasbach .

Community structure

The municipality of Sasbachwalden includes the village of Sasbachwalden, the hamlets of Bischenberg, Brandmatt, Hohritt, Oberer Langert, Unterer Langert, Sandweg and Vorstadt (former hamlet that grew together with Sasbachwalden), the Zinken Auf der Eck, Birkenhöf, Büchelbach, Hagenberg, Hörchenberg, In den Höfen, Kappelberg, Murberg, Schönbüch, Steilisberg, Vogelsberg and Winterbach, the Höfe Hohenstich, Hurschenacker, Kirschenberg, Schelzberg and Straubenhöf and the residential areas Bachmatt, Breitenbrunnen, Grieseneck, Illenbach, Illengrund, Katzenstein and Lierenbach. The Oberhäuser, which is located in the municipality and is often referred to as a lost village , continues to exist; however, the names Dollenhöfe, Straubenhöfe and Birkenhöfe were used as the name for the hamlet from around 1800, after the local farm owners.

history

Sasbachwalden was first mentioned in a document in 1347. However, a closed village center did not develop, instead the place remained a collection of hamlets and individual farms for centuries.

On February 2, 1644, a new village order was drawn up because “the old one was lost” (!). This was signed by the mayor of Sasbach, Hans Friedrich Fritz, from Heimburger zu Sasbachwalden, Michael Ebler, as well as the Sasbachwalden twelve Mathias Wörner, Hans Dietrich, Hans Bürk, Veit Straub and Hans Basler. In the first part of these village rules, the "statutes, according to which the Heimburger must behave" are listed. The second part concerns, among other things, the tasks of the twelve and the annual elections for the Heimburger, the cattle herder and the swineherd.

Sasbachwalden was an episcopal Strasbourg until 1803; it belonged to the bishopric of Strasbourg , the secular territory of the Bishop of Strasbourg . In its administrative structure, Sasbachwalden belonged to the Oberkirch Oberamt , there together with the communities of Sasbach , Obersasbach and Sasbachried to the “Sasbach Court”.

In 1818 Sasbachwalden became an independent municipality. The place belonged to the district of Achern until 1924, then to the district of Bühl . After its dissolution in 1973 he came to the Ortenaukreis .

mayor

After the episcopal-Strasbourg rule of Oberkirch had passed to the Baden state in 1803, a “stick holder” with a stick holder at the top was introduced from every place with at least 300 inhabitants . In 1809 larger units were formed, which were now referred to as "Bailiwicks"; the respective head of the municipality was called Vogt . In 1818 the old judicial associations with the mayor at the top were finally dissolved; the previous bailiwicks became the communities of today, again with a bailiff at the head. In 1831, a new Baden municipal code came into force, and since then the respective municipality leader has been referred to as the mayor .
