history
Early history
Allegedly the Celts already used the ore deposits in the neighboring Kahlenberg near Ringsheim. There are first traces of settlement from the 7th century . It is believed that it was named from this time: "Ringo's home". The Bishop of Basel Adalbero lent the market shelf to Ringsheim im Breisgau in 1002. As early as 1226 it is called "Ringishein" for the first time in a bull by Pope Honorius III. mentioned in a document. Large parts of the place, which was under the diocese of Strasbourg , belonged to the Ettenheimmünster monastery . It belonged to the Oberamt Ettenheim .
19th and 20th centuries
With the secularization due to the Reichsdeputation Hauptschluss , Ringsheim came to the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1803 . There it belonged briefly (until 1809) to the Mahlberg office and then again to the Ettenheim office . With the Baden municipal reform of 1924, the community came to the Lahr district . When this was dissolved in 1973, the place was added to the newly formed Ortenaukreis .
