Local government
The local government is that part of the public administration which , as a city, municipality and district administration as well as a special purpose association in its capacity as an authority or administrative body, exercises local sovereignty as a right similar to fundamental rights.
Germany
In Germany, the local government performs public tasks and is part of the state administration . Local self-government is constitutionally guaranteed ( Article 28 (2 ) of the Basic Law ). The local government in Germany is in the different municipal codes and county ordinances regulated. It is particularly the subject of administrative reform and budget consolidation .
International
Local governments also perform local tasks in other countries, for example in Austria , France , the Netherlands and Israel .
At the European level one speaks of local administrative units . The European Charter of Local Self-Government has existed since 1985 .
