Local government (Israel)
Local government (singular: Hebrew מוֹעָצָה מְקוֹמִית / מועצה מקומית Mo'aza Mekomit or plural : Hebrew מוֹעָצוֹת מְקוֹמִיּוֹת / מועצות מקומיות Mo'azot Mekomiot ) are one of the three types of local government in Israel , along with the city and regional governments .
They are an administrative unit for the smaller urban settlements and the larger agricultural towns.
A local government usually has between 2000 and 20,000 inhabitants and is thus in the administrative structure of Israel between the city administrations and the rural regional administrations .
The decision-making authority about whether a village is raised to a municipal administration rests with the Israeli Ministry of the Interior . The Minister should hear the residents of the locality in question after the criteria for amending the statute have been met.
In 2007 there were a total of 141 local governments in Israel.
