history

In 1991, four Israeli settlements were merged and given the name Karnei Shomron :

  • Karnei Shomron - 1977, founded by 450 families
  • Ginot Shomron - 1984, founded by 850 families
  • Neve Menachem - 1991, founded by 220 families
  • Alonei Shilo - 1999, founded by 25 families

On February 16, 2002, an attack was carried out on the Karnei Shomron Mall . The Palestinian Sadek Abdel Hafeth entered the mall on a Saturday evening ( Shabbat ) wearing an explosive device on his body. At 7:45 p.m. at the entrance to a pizzeria, the suicide bomber detonated this explosive device, killing three young people and injuring 27 people, six of them seriously. Two of the youths died instantly, while the third victim did not succumb to his injuries until February 27, 2002. The fatalities were Rachel Thaler (16 years) and Keren Shatsky (15 years) from Ginot Shomron and Nehemia 'Amar (15 years) from Karnei Shomron. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine took responsibility for the attack, stating that the attacker was an 18-year-old Palestinian teenager from Qalqiliya .
