Shoham ( Hebrew שוהם= Onyx ) is a city in Israel . In 2005 it had almost 18,000 inhabitants, this number rose to 20,990 by 2018. The city is located in the central district on hills on the border between the Sharon Plain and the hills of Samaria , 5 km east of Ben Gurion Airport .

The city was founded as a suburb of Tel Aviv in 1993 and construction is still under way. Because of the very high quality of life, due to good planning, the new town attracted a socio-cultural high-class population. In a comparison of Israeli cities, the city is among the ten best.

Like the names of the neighboring villages of Bareket , Ahlama (former name of Beit Arif ), Nofech, and Leschem , Shoham refers to one of the 12 gems of the Choschen , the breast pocket that was part of the robes of the Jewish high priest (Exodus 28:17).

Some archaeological sites have been discovered in the urban area. These were integrated into public gardens.
