Climatic health resort

The predicate climatic health resort is a seal of quality for health resorts whose climate is therapeutically effective ( healing climate : stimulating climate or mild climate ). For the state recognition and rating in Germany the health resort laws of the federal states as well as other state legal regulations are decisive.
Requirements for recognition
The prerequisites and standards for recognition as a climatic health resort are set by the Deutsche Heilbäderverband e. V. , i.e. the interest association of spas and health resorts, defines:
- A health resort with a healing climate must have a therapeutically applicable and proven bio-climate. The climate is to be assessed bioclimatically on the basis of the protection, irritation and stress factors. Spa guests and therapists should have the opportunity to dose the climatic stimuli through current meteorological data. For the health resort, especially the living and lounge areas of the guests, there are increased requirements for air quality.
- Regular measurements to monitor the climate and air quality must be carried out.
- The location must meet the general requirements of a health resort, i.e. it must have a local character corresponding to the health resort with a health resort park and an appropriate number of efficient hotels and restaurants. In addition, special criteria must be given with regard to medical care (spa doctor with experience in medical climatology, use of specialists trained in climatic therapy) and the therapeutic uses of the healing climate (lounge, climate pavilion or lawn).
- The concerns of environmental protection are to be observed; especially the restriction of road traffic and traffic-related noise emissions. Smoking in hotels and restaurants is only permitted in separately designated areas.
- A medical-meteorological assessment must be available which describes the therapeutic influences of the climatic and air-hygienic conditions and assesses their therapeutic effect from a medical point of view.
Task of the German Weather Service
For health resorts in Germany, the German Weather Service prepares bioclimatological and air hygiene reports according to the quality standards for health resorts and spas. The reports serve the competent authorities of the federal states as decision-making aids for the award or confirmation of the spa rating.
