Horseball

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Horseball is an equestrian sport and can be described as a combination of handball and basketball on horseback . Horseball developed from the Argentine national sport Pato .

Horseball

It is played by two teams of six riders each, four of whom are always on the field, alternating on the fly. This is between 60 and 75 meters long and 20 to 30 meters wide. A game goes over two halves of 10 minutes each with a 3-minute break in between.

The aim of the game is to throw a football-sized ball with six leather loops through a vertically hanging ring with a diameter of 1 meter and which is 4 meters high. Before each valid throw, at least 3 different players of the attacking team must have thrown the ball to each other without being interrupted by the opponent.

The horses must be at least 5 years old and show good social behavior. Polo ponies and American Quarter Horses are particularly suitable , as are all other horse breeds.

Ramassage , d. h .: collecting the ball from the ground

A ball that has fallen on the ground must be picked up without getting off the horse and without slowing the horse's gait . This is made possible by a special strap that connects the stirrups to one another, which allows you to bend down to the ground. Picking up the ball may only be attempted by one player at a time within a radius of 5 meters around the ball. Special priority rules determine which team can pick it up first.

The game is presided over by two referees . On the one hand from the field referee who is decisive for all decisions, who also moves on horseback and thus at the ball level, and on the other hand from a so-called chair referee who is seated outside the field at the level of the center line. The latter has the task of reporting violations of the rules to the field referee via a flag or radio device. In addition, a veterinarian must be present at tournaments.

The German Horseball Association is the umbrella organization of the horseball sport in Germany and is in turn affiliated to the International Horseball Association FIHB ( Fédération internationale de horse-ball ).
