Attractions
One of the oldest continuously inhabited castle complexes in the southern Black Forest is in Ibach. It was probably built as a residential tower in the 12th century by the Lords of Teufen , a once powerful noble family who are better known in this area as the Lords of Tiefenstein. In 1240 Diethelm von Tiefenstein converted it into a monastery cell, and in 1241 he donated the "New Cell" to the St. Georgen monastery in Stein am Rhein , which he entered as a monk. This gave rise to disputes between his brother Hugo and Rudolf von Habsburg , the future German king, who at that time wanted to develop his possessions in the southern Black Forest into a coherent center of power. As a result of this dispute, Tiefenstein Castle was besieged and destroyed in 1272 . Hugo von Tiefenstein was lured into an ambush and murdered.
legend
- Count Rudolf von Habsburg and the pastor of Ibach
When the snow melted in the spring of 1268, the Ibach flooded after a snowy winter. During this time the Zellbrühlbauer was dying. The footbridge over the Ibach was torn away by the flood and the pastor of Ibach could not come to him to provide him. Getting over seemed impossible. Two horsemen came up. It was Count Rudolf and his servant who were hunting. Count Rudolf got off his horse and gave it to the pastor so that he could cross the stream, so he came to the aid of the dying man. When the pastor wanted to return the horse, the count gave it to him. ( Schiller took up this legend in a ballad).
