Damasus Zähringer

Damasus Zähringer OSB (born February 18, 1899 in Ibach as Joseph Zähringer ; † April 8, 1977 in Kressbronn on Lake Constance ; buried in Beuron ) was a German Benedictine and archabbot of the Beuron Archabbey .

Life

Damasus Zähringer joined the Congregation of Benedictines in Beuron in and laid on November 1, 1923 his profession from. He was ordained a priest on July 26, 1925 . In 1931 he was at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen with the dogma-historical work The Church Priesthood after St. Augustine as Dr. theol. PhD .

From 1953 to 1965 Zähringer taught fundamental theology and philosophy of religion at the theological faculty in Salzburg (since 1962 at the University of Salzburg ).

On January 21, 1965, he was elected to succeed Benedikt Reetz ; the benediction took place on February 24, 1965. From 1965 to 1967 he was the seventh Archabbot of the Archabbey of Beuron .

He was a member of the liturgical commissions of the Fulda and Austrian Bishops' Conferences as well as the Archdiocese of Salzburg .

Damasus Zähringer also acted as editor of the "Benedictine Monthly" (from 1959 " Heritage and Mission ").
