Kanacea [ kanaˈðea ], also Kanathea , is a volcanic island in the Lau Archipelago of Fiji . Politically, it belongs to the Eastern Division of this island state .
geography
Kanacea is located in the Northern Group of the Lau Islands, 14 km west of Vanua Balavu , the second largest island in the archipelago, and 15 km north of Mago . The almost round island is 4.5 km long and up to 4 km wide. It has an area of 13 km² and reaches a height of 259 m above sea level. The island is almost completely surrounded by a coral reef , which extends far to the northeast to almost Vanua Balavu. Kanacea is in private ownership inhabited and not permanent, however, exist in the northeast of the island plantations building for the coconut harvest, accommodation and a school.
