About this picture

Biederbach is a municipality in the district of Emmendingen in Baden-Württemberg ( Germany ).

geography

location

The scattered settlement community Biederbach is located in the valley of südsüdostwärts current worthies creek and its tributaries, which on the western edge of the neighboring town of Elzach in the Elz flows. The main valley begins at heights of 660  m about two and a half kilometers northeast of the Hünersedel ( 744  m ) near Schuttertal- Schweighausen , and the municipality ends there in the south just a little over a kilometer before the mouth of the stream at a little over 350  m .

Community structure

The district of Biederbach is made up of numerous individual farms and small settlements. The village district in the south of the district and the Kirchhöfe district in Obertal with the parish church can be designated as local centers. The latter is also known as Oberbiederbach. In total there are 38 villages , hamlets , Zinken , individual farms and single houses in the municipality .

In the municipality of Biederbach were the abandoned (or renamed) localities Knechtmannshof, Rüttershof, Stehelinshof.

The notable settlements in the main valley are Untertal, Tannhöf, Kirchhöfe, Obertal and Höhenhäuser. In the western side valleys are the settlements of Dorf, Hintertal and Uhlsbach, in the eastern side valleys there are the districts of Finsterbach, Hölzberg and Brühl. Illenberg, Knebis, Selbig, Mersberg, Neudorf and Schlegelsberg show themselves on the heights of the district. The districts of Bachere and Frischnau are even further outside.

history

Biederbach is first mentioned in a document in 1309. Originally the place belonged - due to its affiliation to the monastery of St. Margarethen in Waldkirch - to the Schwarzenberg lordship and, like many places in Breisgau, came to Front Austria , where it belonged to the Landgraviate of Breisgau . The Habsburgs mortgaged in 1739 the Lords of Wittenbach with the rule rights. Due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss and the associated mediation , Biederbach came to the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1805 . There it belonged first to the Oberamt Waldkirch and then to the District Office Elzach. The reorganization in 1819 led to the affiliation to the district of Waldkirch. Between 1847 and 1896, many young farmers emigrated due to the lack of livelihood, preferably to the United States of America .

In 1861 and in the 1920s, the residents of the Oberbiederbacher settlements applied for the separation of the community into Ober- and Unterbiederbach. However, the application failed both times.

When districts were introduced in Baden in 1936, Biederbach was assigned to the district of Emmendingen, to which it still belongs today. Since the formation of Baden-Württemberg in 1952, the place has belonged to the new south-western state.
