Signposts for the Lake Constance circular route

A circular route is a route - mostly hiking or biking trails - whose route leads back to the starting point at some point. With circular routes there is often no defined start and end point; this can be chosen anywhere on the route.

Circular hiking trails

Popular circular hiking trails are, for example, lake tours. The length of these circular routes varies greatly: the circuit around the Wörthsee south-west of Munich is around eleven kilometers long and takes just under three hours, while the Lake Constance circular route, which is signposted as such, is between 255 and 275 kilometers and should be divided into around eleven daily stages.

In Germany, the concept of motorist circular hiking trails comes from North Rhine-Westphalia . There are particularly many parking spaces for hikers, from which there are usually several circular hiking trails of different lengths. Particularly long circular hiking trails with many sights are, for example, the Dortmund circular route and the Wuppertal circular route .

Particularly interesting circular hiking trails in the Alps are, for example, the Rosengarten circuit in the Dolomites or the Giro di Viso in the Cottian Alps .

For cyclists

For cyclists, too, circumnavigations of the lake are of particular interest, such as the around 260 km long Lake Constance cycle path or the around 55 km long Chiemsee circular path.

For motorists and motorcyclists

Known round ways are, for example, the Hohenzollernstraße , the lap around the Starnberg or Ammersee and the Sella itinerary with Gardena Pass , Sella , Pordoijoch and Campolongopass in the dolomites.

For skiers

The last mentioned circular route, the so-called Sellaronda , is better known as a day tour for advanced alpine skiers. Over 25 kilometers of slopes in the Dolomiti Superski area , you can lap the picturesque Sella massif .
