history

The name Sexau is based on the original division of the community into "six floodplains".

Sexau was first mentioned in documents as Secchosouna in 862 as a gift from King Ludwig the German to his son Karl . In 1344 the place came from the Andlau monastery to the margraves of Baden-Hachberg and later in the possession of the margraves of Baden , who in 1783 revoked serfdom . The seat of the Baden-Hachberger was the stronghold above Sexau. During the Thirty Years War Sexau was looted and destroyed in 1634 and 1635. In 1718 French soldiers destroyed the church in Sexau-Dorf. In 1801, the place had to struggle with several floods and an earthquake. Towards the end of the Second World War , French soldiers marched into the village on April 20, 1945, which ended the war in Sexau. Sexau celebrated its 1100th anniversary in 1962. The Zehnerhaag-Wegacker development area was built between 1971 and 1976 . The Untere Ziel industrial area followed in the 1970s, the Halde development area between 1981 and 1982, the Belchenstrasse residential area in 1985, the Löwengarten residential area between 1992 and 1993 and the Im Grün industrial area between 1993 and 1995 . From 1996 the residential area Moos II was developed . The Mühlebächle building area followed between 2002 and 2003 .

The Reformation was - as in all of Baden-Durlach - introduced in 1556 in Sexau. Even today, the place is predominantly evangelical .
