action

Ten-year-old Greta Hansen and her family are moving from the city of Hamburg to the Black Forest . Greta's father Philip is a veterinarian and takes over a practice that has become vacant in the village of Waldau; her mother Annette, a trained restorer, has fallen in love with the associated half-timbered house, in which there is something to tinker with and build in every nook and cranny.

The repotted "city plant" Greta has difficulty getting used to the new surroundings, especially since the villagers are reserved when they meet the new vet. Mayor Vinzenz Grieshaber, the largest farmer in town, is not entirely innocent of this: he stirs up suspicion of the “noble doctor from the city”, who certainly takes excessive fees and is allegedly ignorant of large animals, cows and pigs anyway.

While Greta's little sister Lilie is spontaneously enthusiastic about the rural surroundings and the house, in which the girls even meet a tame squirrel, Greta also finds it difficult to get her foot in the village school. The scheming Emma Löffler, daughter of the local shopkeeper and so far best in class, quickly turns out to be her adversary - but then Greta surprisingly finds a new friend in the farmer's son Jonas Grieshaber. And Dr. Hansen found his first patient in Jonas' Bernhardiner Oswald.

Above all, with Jonas by her side, Greta becomes the savior of the animals in the country. Whether she finds a neglected pony in a shack in the forest or is looking for a stolen little Easter lamb, whether she keeps kittens from drowning or a fawn from hunters - in every episode Greta takes care of her fellow creatures, and she puts quite a few of them at home: Animals right up to the roof. Gradually Greta realizes that life in the country can be pretty exciting. Bertie becomes the vet's new assistant.

In the third season, Greta hands over her mission to her cousin Nelly. Ten-year-old Nelly moved to Waldau with her mother. She soon made friends who took care of abandoned dogs, cattle, giant spiders and even mythical animals with her. Pawel and Paulina are children of Polish harvest workers who work on the Grieshaberhof. New in “Animals up to the roof” are also the saying knockers Gustav and Big Ben, whose specialty is annoying.

In the fourth season, Jessie is new. With her red hair and the casual manner, she is quite noticeable in Waldau. But Jessie can be relied on and she and Nelly soon become best friends. Together they look for a replacement for a guide dog or give everything to save Mole Goliath . Greta comes back in season 4 and gets together with Jonas.

In the fifth season, the Hansen family has to stick together: Mother Annette is in Hamburg and takes care of grandma who is in the hospital. Philip, Greta, Lilie and Nelly take care of the household. Josefine Grieshaber is often with the Hansens and helps wherever she can - which is why Lilie is so worried ... And Luis, who works in the riding stable, causes a lot of confusion in Greta's life.

In the 6th season, the Hansen family is about to change the scene: Philip, Nelly and Lilie move to the Grieshaberhof because of a burst water pipe in their house. Pawel and Jessie have secrets. Later on, Philip moves to Freiburg with Nelly. Leonie lives there with her mother.

Filming for the 8th season took place at the end of 2019.
