The Poly Film and Television Company Ltd. is a film production company with headquarters in Berlin .

history

The company was founded in 1885 by two Leipzig factory engineers and has developed into one of the world's leading manufacturers of music players. In addition to orchestrions, records and the typewriter “Polyphon”, automobiles were also produced from 1904 onwards. After taking over the Deutsche Grammophon-Gesellschaft, the company gained a dominant position in the European music business in the 1920s.

After the companies merged to form Deutsche Grammophon AG in 1932, the name Polyphon was initially used as a record label and later for a subsidiary. When the National Socialists came to power, considerable parts of the company's repertoire were classified as " degenerate ".

In 1965, Polyphon Filmgesellschaft mbH resumed business operations with the previous partner Deutsche Grammophon and two other shareholders, Studio Hamburg and Gyula Trebitsch .

The production company Polyphon Pictures is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Polyphon Film- und Fernsehgesellschaft, founded in 2016 and based in Baden-Baden .
