Florida Lady is a family series of ZDF with a total of 21 episodes. The first season was broadcast from January 17, 1994 to March 22, 1994 once a week on Tuesdays at 7:25 pm. The book is by Charles Lewinsky and directed by Hans-Jürgen Tögel . The second season ran from February 17, 1996 to April 20, 1996 on Saturdays at 7:25 p.m.

The bon vivant Tom Keller , who emigrated to Florida , quits his job as a skipper for his friend Leonhard in the Florida Keys and proposes marriage to his great love, the flight attendant Elisabeth . But his plans to go back to Germany with her came to nothing. The woman of his dreams has chosen someone else, despite being pregnant by Tom , who in her opinion is too unreliable.

Without a job and devastated, Tom sits down in his pink Cadillac and visits his old friend Roy Schroeder , who, together with his daughter Penny and the Cuban housemaid Teresita, runs a houseboat rental called Florida Lady and lives on one of the boats himself. There he not only finds distraction and consolation, but soon also finds a new task. For his friend Roy , who broke his leg while waterskiing , he has to step in as a tourist guide and look after the guests of the other houseboats.

At the same time, the veterinarian Dr. Tanja Bergmann . After separating from her husband, she is also in a crisis and flees Germany to live with her friend Dr. Visiting Lisa Chang who works at SeaWorld in Orlando . After getting to know the two of them didn't go very smoothly, Tanja and Tom slowly get closer over time.

In most of the episodes there is also an additional story in which the vacationers are driven to the most beautiful and well-known sights of Florida. Most of the additional roles were played by well-known guest stars.

In 1996 a ten-part second season followed, in which the main actors from season 1 were no longer there. The main roles were played by Bruno Eyron as the German private detective Timm Berger and Christina Plate as Iris Tecklenburg . In Florida, Timm repeatedly takes on assignments in which he is supposed to clarify cases, protect things or people, or retrieve lost valuables.

Trivia

Florida Lady was the first German television series to be produced entirely in the USA . After filming for six months in Miami , Orlando , Key West , Cape Canaveral , Disney World , SeaWorld , Everglades and Cypress Gardens in 1993, the series was cut at Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando. Editor Heidrun Britta Thomas was responsible for editing , as was the case with the successful series Das Traumschiff and Die Schwarzwaldklinik , which were also produced by Wolfgang Rademann .

Soundtrack

The title song Florida Lady is sung by the Briton Chris Thompson . It appeared along with 21 other tracks on the original soundtrack CD for the series.
