The Braun family is a dramedy series about two neo-Nazis who suddenly have to take care of their six-year-old black daughter. The series, consisting of eight episodes each lasting a few minutes, was shown in advance on YouTube and was broadcast for the first time from February 12, 2016 as part of the series Das kleine Fernsehspiel on ZDF . At the start of the broadcast, all episodes were already available in the broadcaster's media library .

action

Thomas and Kai are two young neo-Nazis who live together in a prefabricated apartment in Berlin. One day a young woman from Eritrea , with whom Thomas had a one night stand in 2009, stands at the door . The result of that night is six-year-old Lara. From now on, Thomas should take care of Lara, because the woman should be deported.

While Thomas is rather at a loss, Kai doesn't want anything to do with the black girl. He wants to get rid of her under all circumstances, but does not succeed. Over time, Thomas grows into his father role and increasingly questions his previous attitude . As a result, he repeatedly clashes with his roommate. Finally the two of them part ways, Thomas and Lara move out and Kai has to look for a new roommate.

Reviews

Henryk M. Broder writes in Die Welt that the series is surprisingly poisonous for ZDF, and says that the station was "a great success, apart from the cruel uprightness that characterizes the station's productions otherwise". The series has what it takes to be a hit. On the other hand, Heike Kunert thinks the series “went really wrong” at the time . The dialogues are "hard to beat in terms of platitude" and if the creators had the intention to shake up, this was "thoroughly unsuccessful".
