Weisweil is a municipality in the district of Emmendingen in Baden-Württemberg .

Weisweil is a few kilometers north of the Kaiserstuhl and about 18 km northwest of the district town of Emmendingen in the Upper Rhine Plain on the numerous arms of the Old Rhine . The Rhine forests and floodplains of the Weisweil district were declared a nature reserve Rheinniederung Wyhl - Weisweil in 1998 to preserve the former floodplains with their biodiversity . The wooded areas were turned into a protected forest , in which the uninfluenced, spontaneous development of the forest is to be guaranteed and monitored, or to a protected forest, in which the development of the stock into a mixed forest is to be promoted. The nature reserve extends to the north as far as the Leopold Canal , where it borders on the Taubergießen nature reserve .

The Grand Canal d'Alsace , which branches off at Weisweil on the French side of the Rhine, and the construction of a Rhine water power station have created a barrage through which the main arm of the Rhine at Weisweil expands to a width of around 600 meters. A popular water sports area with a sports port and marina has developed here.

The municipalities of Rheinhausen , Kenzingen , Forchheim and Wyhl border on Weisweil (clockwise from north to south), all in the district of Emmendingen. In the west, the municipality borders on the Rhine, which is the border with France here.

Schanzlin four-wheel tractor

• In 1908 Horst Schanzlin founded the Schanzlin company in Fahrnau, Baden-Württemberg, as a small mechanical workshop for the construction of pumps, band saws, planing machines, straw cutters, hand tractors and turned parts for gear manufacturing. From 1948 onwards the motorization of agriculture by the company Schanzlin Antriebstechnik GmbH with motor mowers, two-wheel tractors, tillers and small four- wheel tractors. In 1953, the company relocated to Weisweil, Köpfle 30, to an area of ​​around 30,000 m², of which 8,000 m² were built over. At times, up to 100 people were employed on three shifts in the plant, which, together with the Schanzlin Maschinenfabrik and Schanzlin Antriebstechnik, was closed on December 1, 2016 by company boss Horst Schanzlin, * 1940, for reasons of age. In a forty-year tradition, the company recently generated 99 percent of sales with thirty different products as a supplier to Daimler AG . The Schanzlin Verwaltungs-GmbH will continue to exist with two workstations for the administration of the halls and properties. The company gained international fame through the manufacture of narrow-track and compact tractors until 1998, which were marketed under the type designations Gigant 433 (30 HP), 442 (42 HP) and 450 (50 HP) , 703 Synchron (38 and 44 kW). and 803 Synchron (41 kw) and the Schanzlin A 300 (30 HP) vineyard tractor were built.
• On August 6, 1956, the Bachert company in Weisweil started manufacturing fire engines and fire protection technology. After the company's mission of Bachert December 1988 1989 resulted from January Iveco as Iveco Magirus Brandschutztechnik GmbH alongside the works in Ulm and Görlitz the fire equipment manufacturing in the Euro-Fire Company Group. In 2012, as a result of a company restructuring, the production facilities in Weisweil, Görlitz, Chambéry / France and Kainbach / Austria were closed in favor of a European fire protection center in Ulm with 500 additional jobs. Up until the closure, 185 people were employed in the construction and sales departments and in special construction in Weisweil.
