The Mireo is an electric multiple unit developed by Siemens Mobility for local rail passenger transport , which replaces the Desiro ML in the Siemens product portfolio .

history

The name and first technical data of the Mireo were published at the end of June 2016. Siemens presented the vehicle virtually to the public for the first time at the InnoTrans trade fair in September 2016.

Final assembly of the first train began at the beginning of June 2018. The commissioning of the first vehicle began on October 1, 2018, and a total of eight pre-series vehicles are to be built for testing.

technology

The Mireo is offered exclusively as an electric multiple unit, a variant with a combustion engine is currently not planned. Unlike the Desiro ML, the Mireo has Jakobs bogies , which, similar to the ICE 4 , are equipped with internally mounted wheel sets . The car bodies are manufactured using an integral aluminum construction. The number of individual wagons that make up a multiple unit can be varied between two and seven, depending on the configuration. Each end car of the Mireo is 26 m long, each intermediate car is 19 m long. Versions for platform heights of 550 mm, 760 mm and 960 mm are available. The number of driven bogies can be varied, which results in different values for the starting acceleration . With the Eco configuration , only the end bogies are driven for a four-part train, resulting in a top speed of 140 km / h and an acceleration of 0.65 m / s². In the Speedy configuration , on the other hand, four out of five bogies are driven, the acceleration increases to 1.2 m / s². The Mireo's top speed is then 160 km / h. According to Siemens, the traction converter and the electrodynamic brake were optimized during the design of the train . The intermediate circuit voltage is 750 V.

The equipment with passenger information systems , WLAN in the passenger compartment, an entertainment system or advertising screens is possible. The design of the interior can be freely configured by the transport company. In order to prevent problems when commissioning the Mireo, Siemens promises to subject the train's software to extensive tests before delivery.

In addition to the electric multiple unit, Siemens is planning to work with the Canadian company Ballard Power Systems to develop a Mireo variant that generates the required electricity from hydrogen using a fuel cell system and can therefore be used on non-electrified routes ( Mireo Plus H ). A 200 kW fuel cell from Ballard Power Systems should enable a speed of up to 160 km / h. The first use of this fuel cell hybrid multiple unit is planned from 2021.

Mireo in bwegt design in Freiburg

Rhine Valley network

Since June 14, 2020, a total of 24 three-part Mireo multiple units have been on the road for DB Regio between Offenburg and Basel or Neuchâtel as a regional train. This line is part of the “Rheintal” network, which was put out to tender by the state of Baden-Württemberg.

The multiple units are approved and have been successively tested in operation since June 14th. All trains are to be used gradually by November 1, 2020.

The trains are painted yellow-white-black in the bwegt state design of the Baden-Württemberg public transport company and have 220 seats. They also have a multipurpose area with space for 27 bicycles.

The 24 multiple units are Siemens' first order for this train platform. They are manufactured in the Siemens factory in Krefeld. The first of eight pre-series trains went into operation in December 2018.

The multiple units, 69.860 m long and 120 t heavy via coupling, reach speeds of up to 160 km / h with an output of 2,600 kW and a starting acceleration of 0.96 m / s² (up to 72 km / h). The entry height is 600 mm.

At DB AG, the vehicles have the series number 463.

Rhein-Neckar S-Bahn

Siemens Mireo in Mannheim

As part of the expansion of the Rhein-Neckar S-Bahn on the routes between Mannheim, Eppingen, Karlsruhe and Aglasterhausen, on Bergstrasse and to Mainz, DB Regio will gradually deploy 57 new Mireo vehicles from December 2020. On the line between Mannheim and Mainz, the introduction of new vehicles will take place in December 2021.

The vehicles become the property of a national subsidiary of the transport authority and are leased to DB Regio Mitte for the 14-year term of the transport contract. The exterior design of the vehicles integrates existing design elements from the states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg and complements them with a vehicle-high S-Bahn symbol .

The vehicles will have an entry height of 800 mm with sliding steps to 770 mm on the six double-leaf swing-sliding doors on each side and be equipped with passenger WiFi. They have 8 seats in the first class, 152 fixed seats with armrests and half a socket each and 40 folding seats in the second class and a capacity of around 454 passengers with standing room. With up to six bicycles in the five multi-purpose areas, 26 bicycles can be carried in a multiple unit. The optical passenger information is provided via six double-sided flat screen ceiling gondolas and flat screens in the entry areas. As in the modernized multiple units of the 425 series, video surveillance takes place in the passenger compartment, the recordings of which are stored for 72 hours. The multiple units cost around 340 million euros together.

Middle Rhine Railway

In order to be able to form longer trains from the existing multiple units of the Desiro Mainline type in triple traction on the more frequented section of the Middle Rhine Railway between Cologne and Remagen, six new Mireo vehicles are being procured via the leasing company Alpha Trains . The vehicles have been built in Krefeld since the end of 2019 and are to be used by the railway company TransRegio Deutsche Regionalbahn mainly on the section between Mainz and Bingen from December 2020 . The transport contract runs until December 2023.

The multiple units are almost identical to the version for the Rhein-Neckar S-Bahn. Because of the different platform heights along the route, all entrances have two sliding steps on top of each other. The new vehicles cannot be used in multiple traction with the vehicles previously used.

Augsburg networks

Go Ahead Germany has ordered twelve five-part Desiro HC and 44 three-part Mireo for the traffic of the Augsburger Netze (lot 1) . The order is worth around 400 million euros. Passenger operations are to commence when the timetable changes in December 2022. The Mireo multiple units should offer 216 seats and 18 bicycle spaces.

Ortenau network

In August 2019, the state of Baden-Württemberg announced that it would place an order with Siemens for 20 battery hybrid catenary trains that could bridge the partially non-electrified routes in the Ortenau network using batteries. From June 2023, Template: future / in 3 yearsthey are to replace the diesel railcars previously in service there. The operation of the vehicles by a railway company should be tendered separately. Since a losing bidder had sued, the order could only be placed in March 2020, after the suit was dismissed. The contract, with a volume of 77 million euros, also includes energy costs and maintenance by Siemens for 29.5 years.

The railcars are in two parts with 120 seats each and are serviced by Siemens. Siemens refers to it as Mireo Plus B . The vehicles are expected to run a total of around two million train kilometers annually.

Karlsruhe network

From December 2022, a total of seven three-part Mireo multiple units for DB Regio are to be on the road between Karlsruhe and Heidelberg / Mannheim via Bruchsal as the North Baden Express. This line is part of the "Netz 7b EBO" network, which was put out to tender by the state of Baden-Württemberg. The trains are painted yellow-white-black in the bwegt state design of the Baden-Württemberg public transport company and have 200 seats.

The vehicles become the property of the Landesanstalt Eisenbahnfahrzeuge Baden-Württemberg (SFBW) and are rented to DB Regio for the 13-year term of the transport contract.

Network Lausitz

DB Regio Nordost is using 18 three-part Mireo multiple units on behalf of the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association for operation from the 2022 timetable change . These will each offer 180 seats. As a special feature, inductive charging stations are offered on the opposite seats. The vehicles should run on the following routes:

  • RB11 Frankfurt (Oder) - Cottbus - Finsterwalde - Falkenberg (Elster)
  • RB49 Cottbus - Ruhland - Elsterwerda-Biehla - Falkenberg (Elster)
  • RE10 Frankfurt (Oder) - Cottbus - Falkenberg (Elster) - Eilenburg - Leipzig Hbf
  • RE10V Cottbus - Leipzig main station
  • RE13 Cottbus - Senftenberg - Elsterwerda
