The 460 series is an electric multiple unit of the Desiro Mainline type from the Desiro vehicle concept developed by Siemens Rail Systems . Angel Trains owns 17 three-part units that are used by Trans Regio (TDR) for their MittelrheinBahn transport service on the left-hand Rhine route .

vehicle

The 460 series, as the first version of a Desiro Mainline, has been adapted to the network-specific requirements of regional transport thanks to its modular design . The end cars are in the German vehicle settings register as class 0460, the intermediate cars as class 0860. The floor height of the vehicle, which is adapted to the platform height, is mostly 800 millimeters above the upper edge of the rail. The vehicles have barrier-free entrances with a width of 1.3 meters, with the greater part of the seats being accessible without steps. The locomotives run as a regional train on the Middle Rhine Railway .

The 460 series has eight seats in 1st  carriage class , two of which have sockets for laptops. Next to the multi-purpose compartment is the barrier-free on- board toilet , which also has a changing table. Paper towels were omitted in favor of a hot air gun. There is video surveillance and the interior is air-conditioned. The multiple units are handled according to the technology-based handling procedure.

The conventional bogies of the type SF6500 come from the Siemens plant in Graz . Among other things, they have tried-and-tested swing arm guides, coil springs and secondary air suspension , making them a direct further development of the SF6000 bogies used in the Sprinter Lighttrain .

The vehicles meet the currently applicable standard for the collision safety of rail vehicle bodies.

Manufacturer

The manufacturer is Siemens Mobility , a division of Siemens AG . The production of the 460 series took place in its factory in Krefeld-Uerdingen . Commissioning and customer acceptance took place in the Wegberg-Wildenrath test center .

Operator and routes

In March 2007 Angel Trains International , a subsidiary of the leasing company Angel Trains , ordered 16 Desiro MLs with a total value of around 70 million euros and at the same time agreed an option on a further 84 trains. This order was later increased to 17 trains. The 17 three-car series 460 were leased from trans regio .

Since December 14, 2008, the Desiro Mainline has been in regular operation on the left-hand Rhine stretch . This so-called MittelrheinBahn contained the two lines until the timetable change on December 11, 2016:

Since December 11, 2016, the RB 26 line has been running the entire route from Cologne to Mainz, the previous stay in Koblenz and the line change have been discontinued since then.

A 15-year maintenance contract was signed with Siemens in August 2008 for all 17 trains. They are maintained in the Koblenz-Mosel depot in Koblenz , which was set up for this purpose and cost around twelve million euros to build. As planned, every train is serviced once a month as standard. In addition, there is an additional, more extensive safety check every quarter. In order to be able to maintain the scheduled operation, 14 of 17 trains have to be operational at all times. In the 2009 timetable year, the reliability of the vehicles was 99.2 percent.
