The vehicles of the British Class 380 are three ( Class 380/0 ) and four-part ( Class 380/1 ) electric multiple units (EMU - electric multiple unit) from the Desiro vehicle concept developed by Siemens Mobility . These aluminum vehicles have been running in Scotland since the end of 2010 .
Manufacturer and operator
On July 28, 2008, Siemens Mobility (now Siemens Rail Systems ) received an order from the operator First ScotRail and the Scottish Transport Authority for a total of 38 Desiro UK Class 380 multiple units, including 22 three-part and 16 four-part trains. The order value including maintenance is around 300 million euros. The production took place from autumn 2009 to the beginning of 2011 in Krefeld - Uerdingen . Commissioning took place in the Wegberg-Wildenrath test center , where the official roll-out took place on July 1, 2010 .
In autumn 2010, a depot for the maintenance of the trains by the manufacturer went into operation in Glasgow (Polmadie).
The customer and operator is the British railway company First ScotRail , a subsidiary of the First Group .

The Class 380 , as the operator calls the series, is operated on the Ayrshire Coast Line between Glasgow and Largs , on the Inverclyde Line between Glasgow and Gourock and on the North Berwick Line between Glasgow and Dunbar .
On May 6, 2009, the mock-up , a full-size demonstration model of the Siemens Desiro of the British class 380, was presented to the public in Glasgow Central station .
