The DSB series MQ is a diesel-mechanical local multiple unit from the Desiro vehicle concept developed by Rail Systems (formerly Siemens Mobility ) for the Danish State Railways DSB .

Two Danish private railways have also purchased multiple units of this type. Technically, the trains are almost identical to the DB version of the 642 series .

history

In December 2000, DSB leased three red railcar units from Angel Trainz Contracts Ltd. on. These were newly built by Siemens AG in Germany and were identical to the type DB 642 . After they were equipped with coffee machines, among other things, they were put into operation on March 22, 2001 as MQ 4951 / 4971–4953 / 4973 on the Odense – Svendborg railway line .

After having had good experiences with the trains, DSB decided in 2002 to rent twelve completely new trains from Angel Trainz in order to convert all traffic on the route between Svendborg and Odense to this series. The three pre-series trains were returned and the twelve new trains were used on the gray / blue DSB-Design route from autumn 2002.

Manufacturer and operator

The manufacturer is the Trains division of Rail Systems , in whose plant in Krefeld-Uerdingen construction and production take place.

Danske Statsbaner (DSB)

DSB rented twelve multiple units from the leasing company Alpha Trains (formerly Angel Trains International ). They were handed over to DSB between July and November 2002 and have been in service on the Odense - Svendborg route since December 2002 . These twelve trains run as the MQ series in the dark blue-gray appearance of the DSB, their company numbers are MQ 4111 to MQ 4122 and MQ 4911 to MQ 4922. In contrast to the Siemens Desiro Classic of the DB series 642 produced up to then , the Danish multiple units have a coffee machine in the multi-purpose area and more comfortable seats with folding tables in the backrest. In addition, a Danish ATC ( Automatic Train Control ) train control system , sliding steps and video-monitored entrances were installed.

On June 30, 2009, a further supply contract for eight new vehicles and an option for a further 92 units was signed. These eight trains were delivered from October 2010 and used on the route from Aarhus to the Djursland peninsula (Grenaabanen) until 2016 . There they took over the services of the MR series that had been in use up to that point . Compared to the first twelve vehicles, these vehicles meet a stricter emissions standard with increased engine power .

From summer 2016 they became superfluous with the expansion of the Aarhus Nærbane . They have been used on the Roskilde – Næstved railway line ever since .

NJJ DM (Nordjyske Jernbaner)

Desiro Classic from Nordjyske Jernbaner

In 2004 and 2005, seven multiple units were procured from the Danish private railway company Nordjyske Jernbaner . They were ordered from Siemens in spring 2004 and delivered from October of the same year. The trains are dark blue and named after local artists. They have the company numbers DM 541 to DM 547 and DM 571 to DM 577.

In 2007 the multiple unit of Helsingør – Hornbæk – Gilleleje Banen was taken over and classified as DM 548/578.

They are used in northern Jutland on the 40-kilometer-long Frederikshavn – Skagen railway line and on the 17-kilometer-long Hjørring – Hirtshals railway between Hjørring and Hirtshals .

HHGB DM (Helsingør – Hornbæk – Gilleleje Banen)

A multiple unit was delivered to the Danish private railway Helsingør – Hornbæk – Gilleleje Banen (HHGB) in April 2001 . The train with the road number DM 101/201 was painted in the colors of the DB class 642. After the HHGB was merged into the Lokalbanen A / S in 2001 , this train remained a one-off. The vehicle was sold to Nordjyske Jernbaner in 2007 .
