Djursland [ ˈdjuːʔʀslanʔ ] is a 1410.7 km² peninsula in eastern Jutland . Djursland's north and east coasts represent smooth coasts . In the south, however, the coast is richly structured by numerous spit hooks , peninsulas and bays . The silted up Kolindsund stretches in the middle of Djursland .
In administrative terms, Djursland is divided into the municipalities of Norddjurs and Syddjurs , which are part of the Midtjylland region .
structure
In the Neolithic , the name the Danes Neolithic period, informed the Sund Djursland, later he was through the land uplift the lake (11th and 12th centuries) and ultimately to farmland. The two barrows of Barkjær were on an island in the sound . In the east of Djursland lies the ailing industrial and port city of Grenaa (14,251 inhabitants). In the ridge Mols counts Agri Bavnehøj 137 m to the higher mountains of Denmark .
There are several peninsulas in front of the south of Djursland, including Mols , a moraine landscape . In particular, it covers the western side of the small indented peninsula. Heath, sand, forest and pastures shape the landscape. Its inhabitants are seen as the East Frisians of Denmark, which the folklorist Evald Tang Kristensen (1843–1929) outlined in literary terms . Jokes are circulating about the inhabitants of the peninsula, the Molboer , the so-called Molbohistorier , which are very similar to the jokes about the inhabitants of Aarhus , the Århushistorier . On the southern edge of Mols, the Helgenæs peninsula protrudes into Århus Bay and the Hasnæs peninsula lies in the southeast . On it, on the east coast of the Ebeltoft Vig bay, is the picturesque country town of Ebeltoft (7,167 inhabitants), which is rural and, above all, touristy.
Attractions
Djursland is known for its country churches ( Church of Agri , Church of Auning , Church of Ebeltoft , Church of Essenbæk and the Church of Udby ). The Church of Thorsager is the only round church of Jutland and dates from the 13th century. Castles ( Clausholm , Løvenholm , Rosenholm and Skaføgaard) and manors ( Gammel Estrup ) reflect the East Jutian manor culture .
Below the town of Rønde are the ruins of the medieval Kalø castle , a dam connects the complex with the mainland.
There are numerous prehistoric monuments, u. a. the Tustrup burial ground , the dolmen at Dystrup Sø , the dolmen in Balle Mark , near Stenvad or Poskær Stenhus . The more than 150 megalithic structures on the peninsula are predominantly dolmens with a polygonal floor plan or rectangular ancient dolmens , while passage graves make up about 10%. Some rune stones are preserved near or in the churches of Øster Alling, Kolind , Rimsø and Virring. A special feature is the mask stone on the Sjellebro (bridge over the Sjelle) on the A21.
In the northern part of the peninsula, a detailed study of the soils, the settlement behavior and the type and condition of the 158 prehistoric lithic monuments in the region was carried out. A third of it is no longer preserved. While the settlements shifted flexibly over the millennia, their total number remained fairly constant from prehistoric times to the 18th century.
