Clausholm Castle is a large baroque palace complex southeast of Randers on the Danish mainland.

history

Clausholm is first mentioned in the chronicles at the beginning of the 14th century, whose owner at the time was Lage Ovesen, one of the leaders in the Jutland uprising of 1359 against Valdemar Atterdag . The castle was built from 1690 for Prime Minister Conrad von Reventlow , with the help of Nicodemus Tessin the Younger . His daughter Anna Sophie von Reventlow lived as a queen widow in the castle. In 1758 it was bought by the nobleman Matthias Wilhelm Huitfeldt, from whom it was inherited by the von Schilden family in 1859 to the Barons Berner, who still own it today.

Clausholm is Denmark's best preserved baroque castle . The interior furnishings are largely preserved in their original state with stucco ceilings, tapestries and a chapel with a historic organ. The baroque garden with a fountain was restored in 1976.
