The Stenvad dolmen is a large stone grave . It is located on Stendyssevej, about 1.5 km northwest of Stenvad in the north of the Djursland peninsula in East Jutland . The large stone grave dates from the Neolithic around 3500–2800 BC. And is a megalithic system of the funnel beaker culture (TBK).

The area is rich in dolmens and in many ways forms the northern counterpart to the concentration around Nødager, 20 km away, south of the Kolindsund . The area was an island in the Neolithic.

The dolmen is one of two structures that lay in an approximately 19 m long and 11 m wide north-east-south-west oriented megalithic bed . In the south-western part lie the meager remains of a second dolmen. A detail of this structure is the preserved threshold stone at the transition between the chamber and the corridor.

The preserved chamber is a hexagonal polygonal pole , the floor plan of which is formed by the five large bearing stones (three of them supporting) and the entrance . The outstanding feature is the polygonal dolmen characteristic, but here markedly oversized, horizontally lying capstone. Some of the curbs of the excavated hill remain.

The Stenvad dolmen is undated as no archaeological excavation has been carried out. The typical grave goods in these dolmens are polished axes , the Neolithic "trademark", deductions from flint and richly decorated pottery of the TBC. Hexagonal chamber outlines have z. For example the dolmen at Sognevejen in Nødager or the dolmen at Grovlegård .

The picturesque dolmen served the draftsman Ib Andersen as a template for the design of the 50-kroner banknote , which was in circulation from 1957 to 1975. That is why it is also called 50 Kroner Dysse today .
