Location on Mols

Poskær Stenhus in Djursland , a peninsula of Jutland , is one of the largest and most beautiful round dolms in Denmark , along with the Vielsted round dysse . It dates from the Neolithic Age around 3500–2800 BC. And is a megalithic system of the funnel beaker culture (TBK). It is located on the road from Knebel to Agri on the Mols peninsula , one kilometer from Knebel in the municipality of Syddjurs . Neolithic monuments are an expression of the culture and ideology of Neolithic societies. Their origin and function are considered to be the hallmarks of social development.

description

The chamber is not in the middle, but offset to the northeast in the curb circle. In the south-eastern part there was perhaps a second, defunct dolmen . Poskær Stenhus would be one of the few round stone structures with a double chamber. Two chambers are preserved at the Breddysse near Kirke-Stillinge on Zealand , but the stone circle is missing. Several chambers (up to five) are more common in the rectangular edging (long dykes or giant beds). Whether the round shape (with around 300 preserved systems) is the successor to the twice as common rectangular one is open to research history. Poskær Stenhus was derived from the funnel beaker culture around 3300 BC. Created. The stone circle is about 20 m in diameter. It consists of 23 of the original 24 closely spaced, more than man-high and over five tons heavy curb stones.

The floor plan of the chamber corresponds to a polygonal pole made of five supporting stones. One of probably two pairs of bearing stones has been preserved from the short corridor . The capstone of the chamber weighs 15 tons and is a twin or pair stone. He is one half of a reddish granite - Foundling . The other half was used as a 19-ton capstone for the Grovlegård Dolmen or Agri-Dolmen just under two kilometers to the northeast. Pair stones are a well-known geological phenomenon; they can be found in many places as natural fission products from frost.

  1. Runddysse is the name used only in Denmark for dolmens that are located in a round hill. In contrast to this, Langdyssen are those dolmens that lie in giant beds.
